The Baby Formally Known as Peanut!

Congratulations!! to my friend Sarah and her husband Matt, on the arrival of their new son, Lucas Robert, aka, "Flash". ;) (*heehee* "Flash Leight"-cute!!) Lucas was born on Tuesday, April 27th, and he is just the cutest little thing!!!!! All 7lbs, 13oz and 20.75 inches of him! *heehee* ;) It was so cool following Sarah's journal through her pregnancy-I look forward to reading more about how the little one is adjusting to life outside the womb. :)

Well, I, too lost in the pool. I said Peanut was going to be a girl. What I should have said was if Peanut was born on an even day: girl; Odd day: boy. I would have been right!! (Unless, of course, Lucas decided to wait an extra day-then I would have been wrong again.) LOL.

One down, three more to go! (Well, 4-if you are counting number of babies, instead of the number of expectant mothers. ;) )

Baby(ies) to Be!

I would like to send out a big Congratulations! to my friend Sharon, and her husband Chris-they are going to be the proud parents of TWINS this coming October! Yay!!! The funny thing is, she told us about it just before I was planning on writing about how almost everyone I know is either getting married, having a baby, or buying a house, in one of my random thoughts post. She proved the point! ;) LOL.

Speaking of babies to be, I'm still waiting "patiently" for word from my friends Sarah and Matt about the arrival of Peanut! ;) Apparently Jerm and Perseph have a pool going on, but I think both of their guesses have already passed. I'm going to start a pool of my own: Will Peanut be a boy, or a girl? I'm going to say "girl" no particular reason-after all, I have a 50/50 chance of being right!! (100% chance if I just say they are going to have a baby-but that's Jerm's answer ;) ). Since today is an even day, and I started this pool today, I am going to say "girl." So there! :)

"My mind is clearer now..."

WOW.

I. LOVE. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!

Two guesses as to what I did tonight, and the first one doesn't count.

Two guesses as to what my absolutely favorite musical in the whole wide world is...and again, the first one doesn't count.

My first exposure to JCS wasn't a happy one-it was in high school-I was working on a big homework assignment, and my family was watching the 1973 movie in the living room. I was tired of working on my homework and upset that my family was watching an Andrew Llyod Webber musical without me, and when I walked in the livingroom, the first thing I saw was Judas being chased by a couple of tanker trucks-so my first impression was, 'what the heck are tanker trucks doing in B.C.?!?!?!' I was told that I needed to watch it from the beginning. So, the following weekend, when I was in a better frame of mind, I got to watch JCS from the beginning, and fell in love with it.

I found out that the stage production was coming to Dayton a few weeks after I would graduate from high school, so I started dropping hints-first subtle, then not so subtle-that I would really, really really love to get tickets as a graduation present. Unfortunately, it didn't work. So, of course when I found out it was coming to Cleveland, I was determined to go see it. Kim, Arthur and I went to see it together (btw, all the musicals I've seen in my adult life, I have seen with one of these two-kinda cool I finally get to see one with both of them!! My Broadway buddies. ;) )

I should know better than to read Plain Dealer reviews-I almost never agree with any of them. One critic said that although the cast was outstanding, the production (well, the staging and scenery) seemed a bit over the top and took away from the show as a whole. I was also a little hesitant when I found out the original director was the same one who worked on the (I think it was 2001) production that PBS aired-I didn't care for that version very much, and it'll take awhile to explain...

Maybe it was the fact that this was an entirely different cast than the PBS one, maybe it was the fact that I saw it live, or maybe a combination of both-all I know is that I was wrong to be hesitant, and I am so glad I went to see it!!! I don't think I can even begin to describe my feelings adequately enough. WOW. Eric Kunze made a great Jesus, and Lawson Skala made a totally creepy Caiaphas. I totally got into "Simon Zealotes" (my favorite number). I started to cry during "Gethsemane" (good thing I don't wear mascara-I would've looked like a fricken' raccoon), and laughed hysterically during "King Herod's Song" OMG-it was such a riot!!! This little old guy came out in a tux and an oversized crown and started singing, with dancing girls and guys, and a big lighted sign that read "HEROD" with flashing lights-totally vaudeville-ish. At then end, after they took Jesus down from the cross, the lights went out, and the ensemble came out in black cloaks carrying lit candles and softly singing the chorus from "Superstar". That was awesome. At the end, after the entire cast came out and we whooped and hollered and gave them standing ovations, they did a little encore of the chorus from "Simon Zealotes", and the audience was totally getting into it-clapping and swaying in time with the music. Awesome, I say-totally awesome.

I have seen the movie, heard at least 5 different cast versions (yay, libraries that carry cds!!!), and now I have finally seen it live. Woo-Hoo!!!

Sweet, I'm Gandalf:

Marriages, houses, babies: It seems almost everyone I know is doing one of the following: getting married, buying a house, or having a baby. When I said that I feel like I'm missing out on something, my friend Tina (who is due in June) said, 'Nah, you're just focused.' LOL.

Speaking of babies, my Sister and Jon are going to try to have another one! If successful, it will be her second, his third, and their fourth...(well, fifth if you count the dog.) ;) *heehee*

Apparently there is a new movie out that is "named" after me. It's called "Ella Enchanted". Now, I have seen nothing what so ever about this movie! Yet I have been asked by family, friends....(even coworkers!) about how I feel about it. :) Yeah, I know I could easily look it up online, but I'm waiting to see a commercial or something for it first. (yeah, we'll see how long that lasts! LOL) Apparently it's a sweet kiddie movie-sounds cool to me! 8-D

So I use my Yahoo email account for my list-serve emails. I belong to several from Sky and Telescope, including a comets list. Well, Monday they sent out a comet announcement, which generated a worm of some kind, so right after the mail came, we started getting virus alerts. Apparently someone had hacked into the list somehow, and planted the worm to release with the next comet announcement. So the past couple of days I have been deleting a few virus alerts, and at least 100 'unsubscribe' emails!! Come on, people! You can not unsubscribe to a list by replying to the list itself!!! Geez, even I know that! Several people started sending messages to get people to stop (a futile effort, I might add, 'cause no body seemed to be paying attention to them.) I read some of the unsubscribe instructions. One of my favorites was from a guy who said, '...and the sad part is, you people are supposed to be intelligent!' LOL! It finally seems to have died down (*knock on wood*) so hopefully S&T will be able to fix the problem so it doesn't happen again.

For those of you in Italian band who read my blog, or those who are just curious to know our schedule, I posted our summer schedule here. I'll probably leave it up until the end of the summer, or until Italian band gets a new website. (cleveland.com stopped supporting their free community websites several months ago)

Speaking of websites-I actually worked on some pages this weekend! I don't have anything that's ready to publish yet, but I'm working on it! I will be updating my front porch soon, though. Since Easter is over, but Marcon is coming soon (only 43 more days!), I picked out a few pics from last year's Marcon for my front porch...now all I have to do is find the time to scan them in!! ;)

Marshmellowy goodness, and a Happy Easter to you!!

Ah, it is a very quiet Good Friday afternoon, as most of my coworkers have taken the day off. Tonight I am going to play in the Good Friday procession at St. Rocco's for Italian band-the weather is looking good, so lets keep our fingers crossed! :)

Since I'm not sure if I'll have the chance to post again before Easter, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

Ah, it's good to be a geek.

Okay, so III has been having trouble all day today-no one can get into the catalog-not the Innopac(telnet) users, Anzio users, or Millenium users. I've done everything I can do without the online program, and I spent all morning reading my book, so now I'll do a little blogging until they fix the problem-we got an email around 11:30 saying it was fixed, but I have yet to find someone who can actually use the system. ;)

This weekend, my Marcon buddy Alicia and I went to visit some friends of hers that I met at my first Marcon, back in 2001. Karen and Chris (not to be confused with my college roommate and her husband-LOL!) are geeks, too-so of course we were going to have alot of fun!! They haven't been going to Marcon lately (they have two little girls- I'll call them Lizzikat and KC) but they are planning on coming this year, and are bringing the kids! Alicia and I went to hang out and play games and watch movies-although we didnt' get to the games, we did have a LOTR marathon that night-we watched the extended versions of the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers...we also went through a 12 pack of Coca-cola and a full pot of strong coffee! Not to mention all the sugar we consumed. LOL. (Just wait until the extended version of the third movie comes out! :-D)

I'm currently reading The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings takes place during the Third Age of the world- Simillarion tells about the First Age of the world. I am finding it absolutely fascinating. In the movie, when they start talking about Morgoth, the Valar, Valinor and Beren and Luthien (the song Aragorn was singing in the Fellowship was about Beren and Luthien), I understand more about what they are talking about-and not just because I read the LOTR before I saw the movie-hmmm...it's hard for me to describe it-but I bet if anyone else feels the same way, they'll know what I'm talking about. ;) I think it's well worth the read.

While we were there, Karen and Chris introduced use to Pennsic-they used to take part in the Pennsic war held in northwestern PA every year (the middle two weeks of August), at Cooper's Lake, north of Pittsburg, near New Castle...I think... It looks really cool, and alot of fun-it's not a spectator event like the Rennaisance festival, and you're expected to dress in periodic clothing all the time-but you don't have to take part in the actual war. I would love to experience it sometime, but not quite yet-I'm more of a con girl right now-not quite ready yet for something as big as Pennsic. :) Since they had been participating in it for a while, they have tons of medieval garb, and Karen said that I could borrow an outfit to where to Marcon!! Way cool!!! I'll probably where it the night of the Masquarade, 'cause I'm still planning on wearing my Doctor Who scarf during the day. Now if only I could find the right kind of hat... ;) Alicia and I are going to plan another trip to visit them before Marcon, and hopefully Karen will be able to outfit me then-I'll have two costumes to wear to Marcon, so I won't be limited to my geeky Scifi and con tshirts. (Not that there is anything wrong with that!!! I love my geeky tshirts.) I've just always wanted to go in costume. One of the best things you can do at Marcon is to ask someone if you can take a picture of their costume-they love that. :)

Alicia and I are so excited: Marcon 39-me, Alicia, Arthur, Karen&Chris and the kiddies-it's going to be so much fun!!!

*heehee* now back to trying to log onto the system. ;) Boy, what a productive day we are having today!!! ;)

I seriously need to update my main site-my front porch is still in winter, and it's spring! (well, technically it's spring) Plus, I was hoping to have added much more to my main site by now...oh, well-I still think I am quite new to this whole 'website' thingy. (*heehee* Don't they call that 'circular reasoning?') ;)

Speaking of site updates...my travel dog page also needs some serious updating-I still need to put up Christmas and New Years...the sad thing is, New Years might come before Christmas! Not to mention that there are some more potential travel dog stories in the works...

Hey, I really am number 9 in that Yahoo search (see comments from previous entry.) Way cool!

speaking of random thoughts-up for grabs this month in the Generation Cross liquidation contest : the infamous Lino Smoking Jacket plus Pipe!! Woo-hoo!!

I swear I will have another scarf update before the thing is actually done. I even have the picture scanned (although by now it's at least a foot longer...) Here's to having it finished before Marcon!

'Don't end up in one of my books...'

Yesterday Persephone and I trekked out to the Borders in Cleveland Heights to meet author John Stark Bellamy II, who has been chronicling tales of woe, crime, and distaster of the Cleveland of yester-year. His fifth book on this subject, Death Ride at Euclid Beach follows the same morbid pattern as his other books: They Died Crawling, and Other Tales of Cleveland Woe; (1995) The Maniac in the Bushes; (1997) The Corpse in the Cellar; (2000) and, of course, The Killer in the Attic (2002) -the first book that Perseph and I read of his, and consequently, the book that got us hooked! Perseph, who had been looking for something to read, found The Killer in the Attic in our library's catalog, and asked me to pick it up for her. I looked at the book and told her that she'd have to let me read it when she was done. That's all it took-one book!! After reading that and discovering KSL didn't have the first three, I Ohio-linked the rest, and Perseph and I would take turns reading them. So when we found out he was going to be at our local Borders, we were so there!!

So why do people have this morbid fascination with crime, death, and disaster? Why, whenever we see a fire, or a bunch of cop cars circling an area, do we want to run out and see for ourselves what's going on? What draws us to the woefull stories of the past? I'm not sure. Bellamy does it because he has always been fascinated by urban legends, especially urban legends about Cleveland's past. He wouldn't recommend researching this kind of stuff to anyone who wants to make a living, though. He didn't even expect it to get this far...it's true-after each book, he insisted that it would be his last. The same is true with his current book-he insists that this is the last in this series, and he's planning on retiring to Vermont with his wife later in the year. He is working on another book, about a murder that happened in Cleveland, but when asked for details he replied, 'Well, if I tell you, then I will have to murder you.' LOL. Guess we'll have to wait and see!! His number one rule-he will not research into any event unless it is at least 40 years old-so as to avoid opening fresh wounds of those who were involved with the event-although occasionaly he does run into descendants of those he writes about-like the time he ran into the granddaughter of a women in Medina who was accused of poisoning her entire family. He says she was 'pleased as punch' that someone had written about it, because no one in her family wanted to talk about it. Other examples of his tales are the Collinwood school fire, the East Ohio Gas explosion, Eliot Ness and the infamous (well, infamous here) torso murders, and the Marylin Sheppard murder.

It was a very interesting hour, indeed. He answered all our questions, and signed his book for us. Perseph and I decided that since we were both planning on reading the book, that we would just get one copy that we could share, and I had him sign it to both of us. He definitely has a sense of humor, too. Since it was our usual taco night, when i sent out my taco email, I said it would be about an hour later, since 2 of us were going to be at this book signing. Jerm wrote back and asked if we could get him to sign one of his tacos. Later that day I asked him what he wanted Bellamy to write, and he replied 'something mysterious'. Well now, I wasn't about to bring a taco in and have him sign it, but I did ask Bellamy if he would sign an autograph on another piece of paper for Jerm. I asked him to write 'something mysterious', but he misunderstood and wrote, 'Don;'t end up in one of my books!' which Perseph and I thought was pretty funny. Later, before we sent Paul out for tacos, I asked him to wrap the signature around one of Jerms tacos-he was amused and appreciated it. :)

Another thing we discovered at the talk (and wish we had known about sooner) is that Bellamy has been giving slide shows chronicling the events in his books that are free and open to the public. They are being held at the Farview Library (check out the Cuyahoga County Library website for more details) His last four talks are:
April 5th : Streets of Fire: the East Ohio Gas Company Fire
May 3rd: She Got Her Money's Worth: the Dan Kaber Murder
May 10th: They Died Crawling: the 1916 Waterworks Tunnel Disaster
May 24th: Valedictory Speech: Killing People for Fun & Profit in Northeast Ohio

I think Persephone and I are going to try to make it to the talk on Monday- it should be interesting!
