Gee whiz.....
D.W.Q.M.: "You know, I am so constantly outwitting the opposition, I tend to forget the delight and satisfaction of the arts... the gentle art of fisticuffs." -the First Doctor
author note: I wrote this just after midnight last night, but it was taking too long to publish, and I was tired, so I just let it go until this morning. ;) 8/24
Why is it almost everything I love to watch in the Olympics (both winter and summer) always seems to meet with controversy?!?
I just finished watching the Men's highbar routine. WOW. After Alexei Nemov's performance...it was so bizzarre-the crowd booed at the judges score forever! (if I had been there, I probably would've been doing that too-instead after the score I was like, 'What?! Are they kidding?' and then watched in amazement as events unfolded in Athens) Now, I'm no judge, and I have no idea what they look at and what they deduct for, but even I thought that Nemov's score was a little low for his performance. What's with the Canadian and Malaysian judges? They rescored it, but it still wasn't enough to raise his place in the standings, and it wasn't enough to shut up the crowd. Finally Nemov got up, thanked the crowd for their support, and asked them to be quiet. He was very graceful (is that the right term to use?) during the whole thing. You gotta admire that-you just gotta.
I had this whole big editorial about how I really feel, but then I chickened out. I know it's my blog and I can say whatever I want, but I'm not much for editorializing online like this (except when it comes to tv, which will be evident if I get around to writing about last Friday's Stargate, but I'm so disguisted with that I don't sknow if I want to!) Anyhoo, I digress.... Most of my editorializing is heard live, in person, and when I'm extremely mad (or excited!) about something...I think...
Why do Olympic judges have a knack for destroying the enjoyment of watching the performances? Sheesh. I also understand that the audience doesn't see what the judges see, what may look like a flawless program actually might not be. But still, judges aren't always right. I truly feel sorry for the competitors.
So how do I feel about all this controversy? Who should get the all-around gold? Guess you'll never know unless you ask me. ;) Don't worry, I won't yell, I promise.
Amid all the controversy, I wonder if people will know and remember who won the gold in the highbar-it was Igor Cassina of Italy. :) Heard the Italian National Anthem. I'm not Italian, but next to our National Anthem, it's the one I know best. (Thank you Italian Band! ;) )
I did get to see the US men sweep the 400 meter!! That was pretty fricken' awesome!!!! :)
Uff-da, that's enough Olympics for me tonight. I'm going to bed!! :) :)

ahh, the Olympics
D.W.Q.M.: "You know, I am so constantly outwitting the opposition, I tend to forget the delight and satisfaction of the arts... the gentle art of fisticuffs." -the First Doctor
Okay, I've succumbed!!! I am finally into the Olympics. When they started last week, I was like, 'Eh, it's not the same as when I was little.' But then I started watching a few competitions, and realized that I really do enjoy watching the Olympics!! So far I've managed to ignore the results being published online (with the exception of a couple of competitions)which is why you won't find any links to the Olympics here-just in case you don't want to know until you see it. ;)
I did manage to see the US Mens swimming team win the gold in the 2x400 meter relay and Paul Hamm's individual gold without reading they had won it online before hand. (both of which, were really fun to watch!!!) I only saw the tail end of Paul's performance, but it was pretty fricken' awesome!!!
At taco night last night Arthur mentioned that the next time the Olympics are in the US, he may have to try to go get tickets to an event. Sounds like a good idea to me. ;) Last night it was just me, Arthur, Paul and Jerm-we had decided to watch the pilot of Firefly (which was very good, btw), and when Arthur turned on the tv, I believe it was one of Korea's competitors on the rings.
"How does he do that?!"
"I don't even know what muscles to use to do that!!"
*heehee* I was amused. :) :)

more about the Feast
D.W.Q.M.: the Second Doctor: "If only I could find my recorder, I could play you a little something to pass the time."
Brigadier: "We should be thankful for small mercies."
random quote from Stargate: "Well, I guess that makes me both happy and sad." -Col. Jack O'Neill
Well, actually-I had hoped to give you brief updates like the one I did Friday afternoon for each day. Unfortunately, when the Doctor mentioned that my friend Mike was putting together my "new" computer, I didn't realize that that also meant dismantling my old computer for parts (like the harddrive) LOL. I should have known better! Since I am still working on setting up my computer, I'll post here at lunch. :)
----------------------
First of all-I gotta know: was there some kind of major sale somewhere on cameras and camcorders? I swear, I'd never seen so many flashes in my life!!! ;)
stats after Friday (this is a running total from thursday
Number of reeds worn out: 2
Number of times we played 118 (Onore D'una Banda): 2
Number of times we played a Sousa march: 6
Condition of lower lip: tad sore
stats after Saturday
Number of reeds worn out: 3 1/2 (1/2 means that I hope to be able to use it the next day. Ha!)
Number of times we played 118: 2 (yay! we got lucky!)
Number of Sousa marches: 9
Condition of lower lip: Ow!
I had my first Jello shot at one of the houses we visited-it was very yummy!!!! ;)
stats after Sunday
Number of reeds: 4 1/2
Played 118: 2 (yay!) ;)
Sousa marches: 11
Condition of lower lip: Is that a blister? ;)
Oddest music heard: the Macgyver theme (I kid you not!!!!)
Best line spoken during the procession: "That's because all of the politicians are ahead of us and they blow back hot air." (In reference to the comment that it gets so warm during a procession. LOL.
Music we lost count on number of times played: Tarentella (well, DUH! can't have an Italian festival without the Tarentella!!), That's Amore, Hey Compare, and Roxie's Theme. (to name a few) ;)
------------------------------------------------
Ah, another year, another Feast. As usual, I'm sad that the Feast is over, but relieved as well (since it is a rather long and tiring job!)
Actually, I do have a little more to say about the Feast, but I'll save that for later! :)
Hmmm..I think I still have 105 stuck in my head. (La Banda N... I can't remember the spelling-I remember it best as '105 blue' ;) ) :)

Even just one makes it worth it. :)
D.W.Q.M.: Cornish: "Control to capsule: do you have visual contact?"
the Third Doctor: "Do you mean 'Can I see it'?"
So after taco night, Jerm and I looked for any signs of the Perseids in
P^2's backyard. This was about 11:30 pm. 20 minutes and several bug bites later, we decided to go inside. I went back out about an hour later by myself-by then, the clouds had started to roll in, but you could still see the brighter stars faintly through the clouds. So I thought, 'why not?' and stayed out there for a few minutes.
It was worth it. I only managed to see 2 meteors, but they were pretty bright since I was able to see them through a thin layer of clouds. Unfortunately the clouds only got thicker, so I decided to call it a night as well.
Am I disappointed? Well, ok- yah-maybe just a little. After all, there was the potential to see many, and I only saw a couple. But I spent many nights growing up camped in our front yard in Minneapolis during the second week of August. Some years were better than others, but it was still fun to just lie out there at night on sleeping bags, staring up at the night sky, listening to the grownups chat amongst themselves. :) I enjoy sitting outside at night watching the sky-even if I don't see anything. So...rather than be disappointed that I didn't see anything spectacular, I am glad that I was able to see what I did!! :)

a few more random thoughts before the crazy weekend!
D.W.Q.M.:Professor Rumford: "I still don't understand about hyperspace."
The Fourth Doctor: "Well, who does?"
K-9: "I do!"
Fourth Doctor: "Oh, shut up, K-9!"
Well, the first of many crazy weekends! ;)
Don't forget, the Perseids peak tonight!!! If you have clear skies, they say the best viewing time will be between 11pm and dawn. I'm hoping that the skies of Cleveland will decide to clear up sooner than forecasted. I hear there is the potential for a meteor storm this year. :)
The Feast of the Assumption begins tomorrow!! For those who actually drive through Little Italy be warned-I hear they are closing the streets at 5 on Thursday and Friday, instead of the usual 6pm. Weather permitting, we will probably have our sit down concert sometime between 8:30-9 pm, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We'll be wandering the neighborhood before between 6-8. Usually we are in the streets near Holy Rosary for the first half hour, then we go visit the neighborhood. :) The big day, the 15th, is Sunday, so we will have the morning procession (Not a parade!!) around 11am...if it starts on time! (ha-ha!), and the evening procession, which I think usually starts about 9-9:30pm to finish up the Festival.
Farscape fans, check this out!!
The Crichton's Summer Vacation. It's pretty funny. Thanks to fellow Ohioscaper Julie for sending the link!!!
Speaking of Farscape, don't forget the NEW mini, the Peacekeeper Wars in OCTOBER!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(can you tell I'm excited?) ;)

I've got a ton of stuff to write about, but I haven't done a random thoughts post in a while...
Some fun stuff:
via Tegan:
and interesting meme: Check the tag of the shirt you are currently wearing and find out where it was made. Mine says 'made in Vietnam'.
Also from Tegan, a really cool auction from eBay. Check it out!!
Upcoming events and shameless promotion:
Hey, if you are in town on Sunday (August 8th) and want to hear some good music, stop by St. Cecilia's church for the Cleveland Interfatih Choir Encourage Concert, at 5pm. St. Cecilia's is located at the corner of East 152nd and Kinsman. (3476 E. 152nd Street) I just recently met the director, Michael-he's really cool!! Persephone's heard him sing and says he's really awesome! :)
Also, in case you've forgotten, the Feast of the Assumption in Little Italy begins next week! Holy Roasary's festival starts Thursday night (August 12th)-they close the streets at 6pm, I think. Italian band will be there everynight, and will be in the procession Sunday morning (the 15th)
Holy cow, August already? Where has the summer gone?
Speaking of August, astronomers are predicting that this will be an awesome year for
the Perseids So if you have clear evening during the week of August 8th, grab a lawn chair or blanket and look up in the sky!! (the Perseids peak on August 12th this year).
I am upset with Adult Swim-they have taken Aqua Teens Hunger Force off the Monday-Thursday lineup and replaced it with Sealab 2021. I'm trying to give Sealab a chance-I've watched 3 episodes so far...eh... I MISS MY AQUA TEENS! It's a good thing that my position in the wait list for the dvds from the library has dropped from 7 to 4. You wanna here something funny? I don't even get the Cartoon Network! ;)
I usually pride myself in not watching the local news, and knowing more about what's happening worldwide, rather than what's happening in "my own backyard", so to speak.
I think I've really outdone myself this time.
Take last week for instance-I spent Monday and Tuesday watching the first season of CSI on dvd (the Doctor picked it up from the library for me.) Tuesday night, about 9:30pm, he wanted to check something on a news channel. I looked at the tv and said, "The Democratic National Convention is going on right now?"
Thursday, while we were watching tv, Perseph says, "Oh, that's right, the President will be here tomorrow." My response? "Of the United States?!"
Man, I tell you-American Idol could be holding auditions right here and I wouldn't even know about it... Oh, hang on a sec, they ARE!!

shower fun :) :)
D.W.Q.M.: "Oh, I could murder for a cup of tea." -Sarah Jane Smith
Okay, trying this post again...
Woo-hoo!! Persephone's bridal shower was a huge success!!! Thank you to everyone who were able attend-Perseph loved it!! I would also like to thank Clio and Kari, who both stuck around afterwards to help out with the cleaning up-you guys didn't have to do that, but it was very much appreciated! Thank you! :) :)
I won't go into details here, because I'm sure Perseph will be writing about it soon. ;) I am planning on turning the page that I had directions to the shower into a picture page taken at the shower. (eventually mine, and with permission, Karen's) I believe Jaya also mention something about posting pictures on her site at some point as well, so stay tuned!!
I have a couple of other things to talk about (like going to St. Cecilia's for the first time with Perseph!) but I'm going to save that for later. Just in case those of you who usually see me online during working hours are wondering, I didn't go into work today. This morning I wasn't feeling too well, but I got up and got dressed anyway to see if I would feel better. Well...let's just say I didn't and decided it would be better if I stayed home today and took it easy. (yeah, I know-unusual for me. I almost never miss work, and my coworkers tend to freak out when I do! Last time they were considering checking with the hospitals when I wasn't in by 10. They were kidding...I think. ;) ) Anyhoo, I'm feeling much better now, and will probably be into work tomorrow, although I still won't be online, because it's my day to go to storage. LOL. :)

arggg...grrrrr....!
Okay, I had a brief post about Peresphone's shower this weekend, but there's something funky going on, and only part of my post was showing up. (there was something about the links I had being broken, even though they clearly weren't.) So I just deleted the entire thing and will try to post it again later tonight if I'm feeling up to it.
Just a quick note-I'm sorry I wasn't online today. I wasn't feeling well this morning and decided to stay home from work and take it easy. (yes, even I call in sick once in a while! ;) LOL)
