One of the many reason's why I like MN.

D.W.Q.M.: "The ceremonial gift merely symbolizes friendship. We have no need for symbols, you and I." -K'anpo, (from the Third Doctor story, Planet of the Spiders).

My sister IM'd me this song that she and the kiddies made up:
"Oh, you better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout-I'm telling you why.
Auntie Ro is coming to town.
She's going to have lots of fun,
She's going to play lots of games,
She's going to spoil you rotten,
So hurry for goodness sakes!"

*heehee*
I can't wait to see them tomorrow!!!!

Doctor Who gets ReAnimated!
The Second Doctor story, the Invaision, is going to be released on dvd-complete with 2 animated episodes (1 and 4, I believe) Since the soundtracks are still available for both episodes, they are going to animate the two missing episodes and release the full story. I think that's really cool-I hope they release it here in the U.S. as well. I also hope they can do that with other lost stories-it would be quite a project, but a really awesome one!
Click here for the full story. :)

Speaking of Classic series releases, the UK will be releasing the Fourth Doctor story, the Sontaran Experiment on dvd in October. I hope the region 1 edition will follow-then I can get rid of my Sontaran/Genesis tapes, and make more room on my Doctor Who shelf! ;)

More on series 3
Doctor Who will get a new producer for the upcoming third series.
Susie Liggat will take over the reigns while producer Phil Collinson takes a much desereved break!

More on last week's spoiler story
No, I'm still not going to say what it's about, but here's a link to some rumors related to last week's announcement.

from
the Scifi Wire

I will be on vacation next week-however, my sister does have an internet connection, so I'm going to try to post while I'm away. If nothing else, at least a link to next week's episode in the U.K. :)

DON'T FREAK OUT!!!

D.W.Q.M.: Sarah Jane Smith: "I feel disoriented."
the Fourth Doctor: "This is the Disorientation Centre."
Sarah Jane: "That makes sense."

Happy Solstice, everybody!! :) As of 8:27am, EDT, it is now officially summer. Here in Cleveland we have some lovely rain and thunder to welcome the new season. ;)

It's that time of year again-my summer trip up north is nearing...the usual symptoms are coming back:

10. When I say I'm checking out the "local" news, I'm constantly logging on to
WCCO.
9. The travel weather section of my weather bug is constantly being looked at.
8. I'm constantly running around, running some kind of errand in preparation for my trip.
7. I see everyone trying to use up their vacation time by taking an extra day everyweek, and I get really antsy-repeating, 'I need a vacation, I need a vacation', when I should be saying, 'Don't worry, yours is coming soon, don't worry, yours is coming soon.
6. I start to worry about paying my bills-I'm so afraid I'm going to forget one and I'll have a nasty letter waiting for me when I get home...
5. I start long lists of things that need to get done before I leave...
4. I try to space out my reading so I'll have something to read during my trip.
3. My 'Minnesotan' accent starts to get thicker...(oh, wait-that happens after my trip.)
2. I get very giddy for no apparent reason. (hang, on-that happens all the time...)

and the number one sign my trip is getting closer?
1. My sister is constantly saying, 'DON'T FREAT OUT!!! I hate being around you just before you leave!!!'

Hahahahahahaa...yes, even before I get there-I manage to drive my sister crazy!!

Hey, that's what sisters are for. ;)

U.S.A. Ratings: The Parting of the Ways generated a 1.14 household rating with an average of 1.4 million viewers. According to the SciFi Channel, the first full series generated an average 1.26 household rating, with an average audience of 1.5 million viewers.

Seem low? Not so-check out
SciFi Wire: Doctor Who boosted the network's ratings on Fridays by double digits!! Woo-hoo!!! What does that mean for series 2? Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see!! It's gotta be good though. Don't forget-series 1 comes out on dvd in the U.S. on July 4th!!

Now that the series has ended, rumors have started to fly on when series 2 will air. The biggest comes from
ICv2, which has said that Doctor Who will probably return in October on the SciFi Channel. Keep in mind, though-there is still no official word from the SciFi Channel. We can keep our fingers crossed, though. :) Hmmm...BSG and Doctor Who...If the rumors are true, then Perseph and I will fall into scifi-induced comas. ;)

Speaking of series 2 airing 'across the pond', according to Michael over at
the Torchwood Institute, series 2 will hit the airwaves in Canada October 9th.

Series 3 News
According to
Outpost Gallifrey, series 3 will begin its 34 weeks of filming in July, starting with the Christmas episode.

Also, Stephen Fry, who was slated to write an episode for series 2, which was bumped to series 3, will not be able to pen an episode after all. :( According to Outpost Gallifrey, he had to pull out due to his schedule. Awww...

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT
Okay, I would feel as though I've let my readers down if I didn't report this-seeing as it's major Doctor Who news. However, as I know some people like to be shocked and surprised (I myself was a tad upset when my screensaver gave it away), I will only say both the BBC and the SciFi Wire have reported the news. Here are the links:
from the BBC
and
from the SciFi Wire

If you have an idea about what it is and don't care about being spoiled, feel free to click on them. Don't say I didn't warn ya. ;)

June Night Sky

D.W.Q.M.: Duke Juliano: "There's this man in Florence claims that by arranging ground glasses in a certain order, it's possible to see the moon and stars as large as your hand."
Marco: "Is that a good thing?" (from the Fourth Doctor story, the Masque of Mandragora,)

This post is brought to you by Sky and Telescope

All times are Eastern Daylight, EDT, unless otherwise noted.
UT-4 hours = EDT.

Sky events
June 7th: Moon beside Jupiter in the evening sky.
June 11th: Full moon
June 14th: Jupiter's moon Io casts its tiny black shadow onto Jupiter's face tonight from 10:48 p.m. to 12:57 a.m.
June 15th: Mars is almost centered in the Beehive Cluster this evening. ; Jupiter's Great Red Spot transits around 11:01 p.m.
June 16th: Pluto is in opposition.; Jupiter is the brightest "star" in the south during and after dusk. It forms a tall triangle with Spica (to the right) and Arcturus (above).
June 17th: Mars and Saturn are in conjunction at 6:25a.m. UT (Universal Time) on the 18th.
June 18th: Jupiter's Red Spot transits at 12:39 a.m.
June 21st: Summer Solstice, 8:27 a.m.
June 26th: Mars reaches aphelion.
June 27th: Thin crescent moon to the right of Saturn at dusk.

More on planets
Mercury shines low in the west-northwest during twilight.
Venus, the "Morning Star" is very low in the east during dawn.
Mars glows orange-red near Saturn in the west after dusk.
Jupiter (see June 16th)
Saturn shines pale yellow in the west during the evening.
Xena, the "Tenth Planet" may get an official name by the International Astronomical Union in August. Xena and it's moon Gabrielle, are the informal names being used by their discovery team. I still want to call it 'Mondas'. ;)

This Day in Astronomy...
June 4th, 1948: Dedication of the 200-inch telescope at Palomar Mountain, CA-the world's largest for two generations.
June 30th, 1908: An asteroid the size of a 10-story building breaks up and explodes over Siberia with the force of a hydrogen bomb, killing reindeer but no humans.

Just because...an interesting fact
Jupiter! Jupiter is a colossal world big enough to contain all the other planets in our soloar system, with room to spare. Another interesting fact: Last February, Jupiter's long-enduring "white oval" BA reddened to become what observers are calling "Red Spot Junior." Check out Sky and Telescope's
article.

Clear skies and happy viewing!

Thank you, NSU!

D.W.Q.M.: "...more than nice. Brilliant!" -the Tenth Doctor

This is a little later than when I originally wanted to post this-but I just wanted to give a shout out to the folks at
Non-Sport Update for being generous and sending me another copy of the current issue of NSU. :)

The mail delivery to my building has been a bit shoddy for the past month-I think the post office is trying to find a new regular mailman for us-we've been having different people deliver the mail, and we suspect that when a sub can't get into the building, they don't deliver the mail at all. Eventually we get our bills, but for cool stuff like magazines, those just disappear. That's what happened to my last issue of Non-Sport Update-I've been so busy the past month that it didn't occur to me until last week that I hadn't received a new issue yet. After checking to make sure one had been sent out, and going over all the scenarios that could have caused my magazine to disappear, Harris Toser (the editor of NSU) apologized for the delay and sent me a new copy-free of charge (even though I was willing to pay for another copy-and it wasn't NSU's fault the issue didn't arrive). Two days later I got my replacement copy-yay!

The people over at NSU are really nice-and I love their message board, Card Talk-if you have a question about non-sports cards-I bet there is somebody over there who can answer them!!

Thanks, guys! :)

Would you like a brain with that?

D.W.Q.M.: "No! No! Not the mind probe!" -Castellan (from the Fifth Doctor Story, the Five Doctors)

Hey! As of today, I've been blogging for 3 years!!! Hard to believe that three years ago, this was just an experiment to see if I could keep a website up to date. (ok, so I haven't done much with my main site in a loooonnnnggg while-at least I've kept my blog up...more or less.) LOL. I'm really due to update my site-add a few Travel Dog adventures, add some pictures. That'll be my goal this summer. :)

My poor sister, Ally (who wishes to be known as Alicat from now on. LOL) :) Anyhoo, my sister is a cashier who works the graveyard shift at a 24 hour grocery store-and anyone who works graveyard shifts could probably tell you stories about the strange customers you get during those hours.

Alicat's story begins with a call she got about an hour before her shift ended. She was the only person up frongt and got a call from a woman asking if they had any soft and comfy toilet paper. Not having a way to check the stock from where she was at, Alicat told her she'd have to check. To which the woman replied, "Hurry, it's exploding everywhere!" Alicat, who was now grossed out by the images that started to run through her head, ran to check on the stock. When she got back she told the woman they did, indeed, have soft and comfy toilet paper-and told her what brands they carried. Then the woman told her she needed the biggest size and the best deal they had-so once again, Alicat went to find the best deal. When she got back and reported her findings, the woman said, "Oh, angel, it sounds good but you took too long so I'm going to have to call another store!" WHAT?!?! Geez! After all that work Alicat did, -I thought it was an emergency-things are exploding everywhere, and you're going to call another store? With some of the people she gets, Alicat thinks her greeting should be "Did you find everything okay, and would you like a brain with that?" LOL. My poor little sister.

It's the last episode of the first series here in the U.S.! For those who haven't seen the end of the series-I can't wait to hear about what you think of the show now. :) Still no word on series 2 for SciFi.

If you haven't already entered, there's still a chance to prove your Doctor Who's biggest fan and when a video iPod.
Click here before time runs out!!

U.S. Ratings: Ratings were down a bit again- a 1.02 household rating with an average of 1.3 million viewers. Average to date: 1.27 household rating with an average of 1.5 million viewers.

The Beginner's Guide to Classic Doctor Who. BBC has created a beginner's guide to Classic Who for fans who are new to the series. You can select The Doctor, The Companions, The TARDIS, The Daleks, or Monsters, and you'll get a brief narrative description of each-with different images cycling throughout. Well, except for the Monsters section-with that one, you have a target, and these monsters scroll across the screen-when you fire on one (with Dalek gun sound effects) the monster lights up and you get a description. Overall, I like the guide. At first I thought the Companions section was a little thin (only talking about Rose, Sarah Jane, K-9, Susan, and briefly, Ian and Barbara), but then I remembered this is supposed to be a guide for fans who are new to the series. Trying to explain all of Doctor Who to a newcomer in one setting may overwhelm them. So why not just talk about the current, first, and the two companions who return for an episode in the current series? Hopefully, if they want to know more, they can check out more extensive guides, like the classic one found here. :)

If you haven't done so already, check out the Classic series
eBooks. According to the site, all feature brand new artwork and extensive notes from the authors!

Congrats, Billie Piper! She has one another award-the UK TV Actress of the Year award at Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year Awards. :)

Doctor Who Audios Check out The Kingmaker, a Fifth Doctor story with Peter Davidson as the Doctor, and Nicola Bryant as Peri. I hear it's a brilliant story-and absolutely hillarious!

Series 3 Series 3 will begin with the filming of the Christmas special, and will go on for about 34 weeks. Next year, the Doctor will
meet Shakespeare!

VERY short random thoughts

D.W.Q.M.: the Second Doctor: "Goodbye...Fancypants!"
the Third Doctor: "Scarecrow!"

Arrrrrggg..I had a nice long random thoughts post, and I lost it!!!! Stupid blogger-why did I have to log in again? I had been working non-stop on the post! I keep forgetting to save my entries as I type them. *sigh* >:(

Ok, well, I had several things to say, but now I'm just going to write about a couple of them (because of time issues.) ;) .

First of all, Hello, Ally!! My little sis is finally online! Look out, world! ;) She was so excited that she emailed me Friday night, and when I called, she told me to check it. Well, I forgot to check it again during the weekend, so she called and asked me if I ever checked my email. When I finally did check it last night, I was greeted with 7 'Hey! Don't you ever check your email?' messages, and several new pictures of the kiddies!! I do feel bad about not checking my email though. Ally, since you now have a digital camera, a computer, and an internet service-you better start sending more pictures of the kids!! :)

I have a bone to pick with SciFi. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful that they are finally showing the new series of Doctor Who, but their promos have little to be desired. Most of the time the clips they had in their promos had little to do with the episode (the main plot-for example-the Doctor Dances-they never showed any of the gas-masked zombies), which would leave new viewers saying, 'Huh?'. That was pretty much par for the course...until the last two episodes. The promos pratically gave away the entire episode! Or at least the part that would make your jaw drop and say, 'OMG!' since you weren't expecting it. I mean, they aired a promo for this Friday's episode during the first commercial break of Bad Wolf-which gave away the suprise ending! I mean, come on! The first commercial break?!?! Who's in charge of creating the promos? *sigh* /end rant. I feel better now. LOL. :)

TAFN.
ooooh, wait-Genesis of the Daleks comes out on dvd tomorrow-yay!!!!!!!!!! (and thank you, Daniel, for the cast recording LP of the episode-I love it!) :)

RIP, Peter Bryant
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
from the BBC website: Peter Bryant, the producer of some of the most well-loved Doctor Who stories of the 1960s[during the Patrick Troughton years], passed away on Friday 19 May after a long illness.

For more about Peter Bryant,
see full story here.

Australia gets series 2!
Series 2 will start airing in Australia on ABC July 8th, 2006 at 7:30 pm. Canada's CBC will air series 2 sometime this fall. Still no word on if and when SciFi will pick up series 2 here in the States.

Cool new toys!
SciFi Weekly has a review of a new Doctor Who toy-a TARDIS Phone Flasher! Put in some batteries and set the TARDIS on your desktop-when someone's cell phone rings within 1.5 meters of it, the blue light will start to flash and you'll here the famous TARDIS dematerialization sound. (you can also have it set to silencer, so only the light will flash) Can you image having that at your desk at work? I'd drive my coworkers nuts!!! LOL.

See the full review
here.

Blogger seems to be having issues, so I'm going to have to cut this post short before I loose anything. I'm sorry!!!

Happy Doctor Who watching everyone!
