too...hot...
D.W.Q.M.: Barbara: "Perhaps it's frozen." the First Doctor: "No, impossible... not in this temperature. Besides, it's too warm."
Ugh. It is entirely too hot. I hate the heat. I could never move out west or down south-I would just be too miserable. Unfortunately, I wouldn't escape the heat if I went up north! Minneapolis is supposed to get up to 102 today-and no one believes me when I say it can get pretty hot and miserable in Minnesota...
I finally broke down and installed my air conditioner yesterday. I know you must think I'm nuts for waiting this long-but actually, I had been doing pretty well up to now. Saturday night was the first night that I couldn't sleep because it was too warm. So, with the heat advisories for this week, plus the fact that I'm fighting off an ear infection(which feels 10x worse when it's hot and muggy) I installed the good 'ol A/C, and my apartment is much more comfortable now. ;)
This past Saturday was the Second Annual Tippit Reunion and Perseph&Foofy's-and we had a great turnout! Although the weather was pretty warm-it was managable-and it didnt' rain. We stayed inside while the food was grilling (special thanks to Chris for taking the heat and grilling for us!) then we ate outside, hung around and played a few games, then eventually went back inside to hang out some more (and play an exciting game of Cranium-go team!) Good times were had by all. I'll have to try to get some pictures up (although you all know my track record-so don't expect it, just be pleasantly surprised if they make it online! LOL) ;) I'd like to get back into scrapbooking, and make a book for this year, and last year's-then have them for people to look at during our 3rd annual reunion! :)

Ro vs. the Elevator
D.W.Q.M.: Ian: "Where's your spirit of adventure, hm?" the First Doctor: "It died a slow and painful death when those bats came out of the rafters."
There are times when our "library of the future" doesn't seem so futuristic. Why must everything keep breaking down?
The other day I had to bring some microfilm I was linking from the second floor back down to the first floor. I took my truck, loaded with microfilm, and headed for the elevators. After waiting a bit, elevator #2 opened up and I pushed my truck inside and hit '1'. The doors closed, the elevator hummed, the display went from 2 to 1, and the elevator dinged like it was going to open...
...only it didn't open. The arrow indicated that it now wanted to go up, but the elevator itself didn't move-it dinged a few more times, the arrow still pointing up, flashed 'LL' briefly, dinged some more...and just when I thought I was going to have to hit the emergency button, the elevator chocked and opened up to the first floor. I quickly got out and on my way back up, I took elevator #1.
I was chatting with Jerm about my experience. We have been hosting new student orientation receptions here, and he mentioned that scaring new students and their parents to death was probably not the best introduction to the school. I agree. "Hello, welcome to our school-here, ride the elevator. It hasn't eaten anybody...today." Jerm said 'well, at least you survived with only minor emotional scarring, and you know which elevator is safe.' Yup!
...or so I thought.
Later that same afternoon, I had another truck full of microfilm that needed to go back downstairs. This time I waited for elevator #1 to arrive. I got it, hit '1' then waited. The indicator light on the button went out, and the doors remained open. Frustrated, I hit '1' again, and the doors started to close, but then opened before they had completely shut. I poked my head out to see if anyone was trying to get on the elevator. No one. Sighing (exasperated sighs), I hit '1' and the doors finally closed and I made it to the first floor without further incident.
The repairman has been called, but the part needed is on back order...or something. *sigh*
Elevator 2, Ro 1.

writer's block and no, we aren't twins...
D.W.Q.M.: "The universe should be big enough for the both of us ... just." -the Second Doctor
Ok, I'm having a serious case of writer's block when it comes to writing about my trip to MN. I've been home for 2 weeks now-everytime I sit down to write something...I just don't know what to write.
The trip up was pretty uneventful (ooh, just wait until I get around to the trip back...) Anyhoo, the ride from Cleveland to Chicago was pretty unpleasant-the guy I was sitting next to had a tendency to cover both seats when he fell asleep (unintentional, I assume)-it was awfully hard to wake him, so I spent most of the ride riding on the edge of the seat. The ride also seemed to be one of the bumpiest ever-did the driver have to hit every, pothole there was? So much for sleeping the first half of the trip...
The second half was much better-I was waiting in line for the next bus with a girl who was heading for St. Paul-we were comparing our trip to Chicago, and when it was time to board the bus (btw, they still are very disorganized there), she got on first and managed to save me a spot next to her-plenty of room for both of us. So I made it to Minneapolis in one piece, and was greeted by Alicat. :)
We are not twins...really, we're not. People say my sister and I look alike-we can accept that-we think we do...but we don't think we look like twins...maybe we sound like them though...
Case 1: Mellon. We stopped at our Mom's apartment first-I went in, and Alicat and Jon when over to June's to collect the other kids. Mellon was with my mom-when I knocked, she had Mellon in her arms, who apparently had just woken up from a nap. She saw me, smiled, then reached for me and hugged me-she nuzzled her face in my left shoulder, would look up, smile, then nuzzle her face in my right shoulder, look up, smile, and back to the left. She did this for a time, making my day, but then suddenly wanted Grandma-we think she may have, in her sleepy state, mistaken me for "Mom". *hee* I don't care-I still felt loved. :) She is such a cutie-pie.. yes, I know, I need to put up pictures
Case 2: Shan. Ok, first a little background...Alicat took off the wrong day, so she had to work the day I came in-originally she was going to have Shan pick me up, but Shan and Lee had a softball game that day. Turns out Alicat switched with someone, but neglected to tell Shan. Shan told me that if noone was there to pick me up, I should call her and they'd work something out. Well, after we left Mom's and were heading to Shafer, Ali told me to call Shan and say, 'Umm...do you know if Alicat was supposed to pick me up?' (Keep in mind, this is now three hours later). I told her I wouldn't do that-so Ali grabbed my phone and called Shan. I could hear Shan in a shocked voice yelling, 'What?!? You mean she didn't come to get you? You've been at the bus station all this time?!!!' I quickly grabbed my phone and told her that it wasn't my idea and that Ali took the phone from me. Meanwhile, Alicat was laughing so hard she was turning red.
Case 3:Teeny-bopper cashiers at Cub Foods. Ali, Shan, Sum, and I were all planning on playing disc golf that first Sunday I was there. We stopped at the Cub Foods near Mom's to pick up some bottle water and Gatorade. While we were in line, the cashier looked up and asked us if we were twins. Ali and I looked at each other and said, 'Nooo...'. 'Really? You sure do look like it.' she insisted. 'No, we aren't-trust us, we aren't.' She just couldn't believe it-first she asked who was older, then how far apart we were. When we told her she was so dumbfounded that she called over the girl bagging our stuff and informed her that we weren't twins. She couldn't believe it either. I think she even asked us if we were sure we weren't twins.
Believe me, we are sure. ;)

Hello! and some Doctor Who news.
D.W.Q.M.:Sgt. Benton: "What are we going to do now?" the Second Doctor: "Keep it confused, feed it with useless information. I wonder if I have a television set handy?"
I know this is my first post since I got back, and I probably should talk about my trip...well, I meant to do that earlier this week but I was just too tired. LOL. I need a vacation to recover from my vacation! ;) Plus, I'm hoping to have some pictures to post with my trip entries, until then-I had a great time (even though I missed Boo terribly-she was in Texas visiting her dad while I was in Minnesota) and here is some Doctor Who news. (which, by the way, can also be found over at the Idiot's Lantern) LOL.
Series One (season 27) in the USA:(recap)
Current episode: Series 1 has finished it's current run. *patiently awaiting news on when series two will air...* SciFi will air The Empty Child on Sunday, July 16th at 11pm. The Doctor Dances will air the following week (the 23rd) also at 11pm. I don't see Doctor Who in anywhere in the schedule for August-boo!
Previous episodes: 13. The Parting of the Ways 12. Bad Wolf 11. Boom Town 10. The Doctor Dances 9. The Empty Child 8. Father's Day 7.The Long Game 6.Dalek 5.World War III 4.Aliens of London 3.The Unquiet Dead 2.The End of the World 1.Rose
Series Two (season 28) in the UK: (recap)
Current episode: Series 2 has finished it's current run on the BBC. Doctor Who will return in December with the Christmas special, the Runaway Bride. Note: If you click on the link, there is a possible spoiler if you haven't seen the end of series 2.
Previous episodes: 13. Doomsday 12. Army of Ghosts 11. Fear Her 10. Love & Monsters 9. The Satan Pit 8. The Impossible Planet 7. The Idiot's Lantern 6. The Age of Steel 5. The Rise of the Cybermen 4. The Girl in the Fireplace 3.School Reunion 2.Tooth and Claw 1. New Earth
Season 1 now on dvd! As of today, the first series was #9 in Amazon's dvd sales. I saw it as high as #3-but I've only been online since Monday-did anyone else notice if it was higher? I hope this bodes well for us who would like to see series 2 come to SciFi. :)
Speaking of dvds, the Fourth Doctor story, the Hand of Fear and the Sixth Doctor story, the Mark of the Rani will be coming to dvd on November 7th. I like this apparent trend of the dvds coming out in Britain, and then shortly after coming out on this side of the pond. Grant it, it would be much cooler if they came out at the same time, but waiting a few months is better than waiting a year or more. I hope this means the Invasion will follow shortly. :) :)
BBC7 will start a repeat season of the Eighth Doctor audios, starting this Sunday (July 16th) with Shada. Also included are Storm Warning, Sword of Orion, The Stones of Venice, Invaders from Mars and The Chimes of Midnight. These stories will run through August 27th.
TAFN-still trying to catch up!!
